I am a second year grad student in the cognitive division of the Psychology department. I am interested in the neural underpinnings of language processing. My recent work with Prof. Kara Federmeier looks into the ERPs elicited by nouns and verbs in syntactically well-specified contexts. Specifically, we looked into how the processing of these two grammatical categories is influenced by whether a word can be used as both a noun and a verb and if yes, how the similarity/difference of its noun sense and verb sense would influence its lexical processing. Our future work will use ERP and visual half-field (VF) presentation methods to explore if the word class ambiguity and lexical semantic ambiguity are resolved differently, and if yes, how, across the two hemispheres.
