Being a Leader and Leadership Courses![]() Developing Self-Awareness as a Leader:
Please check out all the opportunities at the Illinois Leadership Center. You'll find numerous opportunities to develop your leadership skills to enhance your future endeavors. **Leadership Courses Class-room experiences to gain more knowledge/skills in leadership: Ag Ed 260: Introduction to Leadership Studies (3 hrs0 Study of leadership theories and their application to the development of leadership skills. Students develop a personal philosophy of leadership, prepare a development plan for enhancing leadership skills, and begin a portfolio to record their leadership growth. Explores topics concerning diversity, ethics, and leadership/follower roles. Offered each semester. Ag Ed 360: Integrating Leadership (3 hrs.) Capstone academic experience for students to study the practice of leadership in personal, team, organizational and community contexts. Emphasis is placed on transitional development of leadership skills including mentoring, networking, and developing leadership skill in others. Prerequisite: AGED 260. Offered each semester. GE 361: Interpersonal Skills & Emotional Intelligence (3 hrs.) Introduction to developing interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. Topics include understanding emotions in ourselves and others, assessing and improving interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence competencies including: self-regulation, motivation, empathetic listening, communication, influence collaboration and cooperation, conflict management, leadership, teamwork, and managing change. There is one required laboratory session on a single Saturday. Offered each semester. GE 398: Engaging Leadership (1 hr.) Lectures on special topics in selected areas.
