Mail Configuration

To use Programs such as Eudora, Outlook, etc, with the new psych mail server, the following configuration options are required.

Eudora users please note the "Secure Sockets when Receiving" setting, since in many cases it will already be set to the value that does not work.

Receiving Mail

IMAP vs. POP	Either will work	IMAP is preferred; it allows management of multiple folders on the server
IMAP Mailbox Location Prefix (Path to Folders)	leave blank/empty	This must be blank, or you will not be able to read mail
Secure Sockets when Receiving	Eudora Users: Required, Alternate Port Outlook:See Secure Sockets when Sending Others: Secure/STARTTLS/SSL	The default Eudora setting of If Available, STARTTLS will NOT work due to a Eudora bug
Sending Mail

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP Server)	On Campus: cyrus.psych.uiuc.edu Off Campus: Your IP provider's mail server, or use authentication (see SMTP AUTH below)	If using Insightbb from home, use mail.insightbb.com
Secure Sockets when Sending	if available, STARTTLS Outlook Express: (highlight cyrus.psych.uiuc.edu at left): Properties/Advanced - Check "This server requires a secure connect (SSL)" for both incoming and outgoing	The Eudora bug mentioned above does not apply to sending mail
Authenticate when sending mail (SMTP AUTH)	Allow Authentication (Eudora)/Authenticate if available Outlook Express: (highlight cyrus.psych.uiuc.edu at left): Properties/Servers/Outgoing Mail Server - Check "This server requires authentication"; Under Settings: Use same login/pwd as incoming mail server"	Authentication when sending will allow sending mail from outside campus if using cyrus.psych.uiuc.edu as the outgoing server
