PURPOSE
The Organizational Justice and Workplace Bias Laboratory at the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign conducts both lab and field
research on justice and bias that span disciplines of Industrial/Organizational
Psychology, Social Psychology, Personality Psychology, Human Resource
Management, Organizational Behavior, and Judgment and Decision Making.
The Organizational Justice research currently underway focuses
on the impact of fairness information on managerial decision-making, multi-foci
justice effects, the relationship between justice and social exchange,
the role of both individual and situational factors in reactions to injustice
(e.g., cognitive processing limitations, moral development), training
for justice, and the effect of fairness on assessee responsiveness to
feedback in the context of developmental assessment centers.
Current Workplace Bias research is focused on bias against older
employees and employees with learning disabilities. In particular, this
research explores the sources of bias against individuals in these populations
as well as the psychological processes leading to biased behaviors. Knowledge
structures, stereotypes, attitudes, and causal attributions are all being
studied in this context.
